Thomas Müller is ending his career with the Vancouver Whitecaps in Canada. And then? The 2014 World Cup hero has ruled out joining the management team at FC Bayern – at least for the time being.
Müller is still under contract with the Vancouver Whitecaps until the end of the year. The 36-year-old doesn’t yet know what will happen next for him after his playing career. “At the moment it is still completely unclear what this path will look like,” said the football icon to “Bild”.
There is always speculation about whether Müller could join the management team at FC Bayern. In their long and successful history, the Munich team has repeatedly relied on former players – Uli Hoeneß and Karl-Heinz Rummenigge are the best-known examples.
“I’m not ruling anything out in the long term,” revealed Müller. At the same time, the 2014 world champion made it clear: “I can’t imagine that this will become relevant in the near future.”
Because: “You can’t get a job in a management position at FC Bayern in passing. As Uli Hoeneß and Karl-Heinz Rummenigge rightly said, you have to prepare intensively for it, gain various experiences beforehand and then deliver,” said Müller.
Müller does not rule out contract extension
The “Raumdeuter” wants to continue playing on the pitch for the time being. His focus is “right now on being a player. I still have a contract with the Whitecaps until the end of the year. If everything goes as it has recently, I could imagine that I’ll continue playing for a bit,” said Müller.
“At the moment we don’t know exactly how and where things will continue for the Whitecaps. And I don’t yet know how my body will feel at the end of the year,” said the Bayern legend.
The Whitecaps’ future in Vancouver is open. Rumors are circulating in North America about a possible move to Las Vegas.
