The German national biathlon team is starting with several stars at the summer benchmark in Dresden.
As the German Ski Association officially confirmed on Wednesday afternoon, Vanessa Voigt, Janina Hettich-Walz, Philipp Nawrath and Justus Strelow are taking part in the City Biathlon Dresden (August 23rd).
The DSV stars compete in the Saxon state capital with greats such as the French overall World Cup winner Éric Perrot and the Italian Olympic champion Lisa Vittozzi.
“The City Biathlon Dresden is a special event for us as the German Ski Association – top-class sport in the middle of the city, a unique atmosphere and a stage on which our athletes can show what they can do in front of a home audience,” quotes the association’s sports director Bernd Eisenbichler.
“With Philipp Nawrath, Justus Strelow, Vanessa Voigt and Janina Hettich-Walz, we have a team at the start that consistently worked at a high level last winter. At the same time, the international field of participants in Dresden is a real benchmark and therefore a valuable assessment of the situation in the summer,” explained the DSV official.
German biathlon duo misses the podium
Last year the Belgian Lotte Lie won the women’s event. Local hero Vanessa Voigt narrowly missed the podium in fourth place. Eric Perrot won among the men. The best German biathlete was Justus Strelow in fourth place. The Norwegian Johannes Thingnes Bø won the legend race.
The German ski hunters are currently busy preparing for the coming World Cup winter. The starting signal is on November 24th in Kontiolahti, Finland. Oberhof and Ruhpolding are again part of the calendar. The highlight of the season is the 2027 Biathlon World Championships in Otepää/Estonia (February 8th to 21st).
