While Oliver Baumann is “only” number two for Germany at the World Cup, he remains number one with his wife. The two are linked by a relentless struggle.
Just a few weeks before the start of the 2026 World Cup in the USA, Mexico and Canada, Oliver Baumann was demoted to number two. Despite a strong performance in the World Cup qualification, it is not he, but Manuel Neuer who will be the team’s first goalkeeper. But Baumann is also part of the squad. He is supported by his wife Charlotte. The “Bild” newspaper writes that Baumann would also call her “my lucky charm.”
Baumann met his current wife as a teenager. At that time he was still in goal for SC Freiburg. The club changed: Baumann has been playing for TSG 1899 Hoffenheim since 2014, but her partner remained. The now 36-year-old and Charlotte celebrated their wedding in 2016. Baumann shared a photo of it on Instagram at the time.

“Married my charming girlfriend during the summer break, it was time after seven years,” wrote the professional footballer about the black and white picture. He also noted that the two had a “wonderful celebration with our closest friends and our families.”

In 2017, Baumann gave some impressions of his marriage. For example, he showed photos from attending an Ed Sheeran concert together or published a photo from his Las Vegas vacation with Charlotte. After that, however, there were no more private photos of him and his wife on Instagram. Since then, Baumann has only shared photos of himself with a sporting background or in the context of his commitment to children with cancer or children with mental and physical disabilities.
Together with Charlotte in the fight against cancer
Together with his wife, the goalkeeper is committed to the fight against cancer. In an interview for his current club Hoffenheim, Baumann cited “several points of connection” with the illness as reasons. During his time in Freiburg he had a young fan who was suffering from cancer. “The parents came with him every now and then to training or to games, asking for a photo or sometimes for gloves. We saw him again and again, accompanied him for a certain time, followed his life and his suffering. That moved Charlotte and me very much,” said Baumann.
