Defending champions Chelsea won the second leg of the quarter-finals in the Champions League on Tuesday evening (April 12, 2022) at Real Madrid 3-2 after extra time and were very unluckily eliminated after the 3-1 defeat in the first leg at Stamford Bridge.
Rüdiger and Werner meet – but also Benzema
Mason Mount (15th) and Antonio Rüdiger (51st) had made up for the two-goal deficit from the first leg with their goals at the Santiago Bernabeu. After Timo Werner’s goal to make it 3-0 (75th), sensational advancement seemed within reach for the “Blues”. But Rodrygo saved the royals with his goal to make it 1: 3 in extra time (80th). Karim Benzema (96′), the decisive man with three goals in the first leg, scored there and paved the way for Madrid to reach the semifinals.
More to come.
