The French national football team is bubbling under the World Cup tournament that starts next week. According to L’Équipe, French star striker Kylian Mbappé is furious with the country’s football association FFF after the advertising campaign it implemented.
Mbappé didn’t like the way the FFF used his and other national team players’ pictures in the campaign they implemented with the French betting company Betclic.
According to L’Équipe, Mbappé and the Manchester City striker Ryan Cherki have announced that they do not accept the use of their images in betting marketing.
According to L’Équipe’s report, the incident has created a “very tense atmosphere” within the team.
In addition to Mbappé and Cherk, Désiré Doué, Michael Olise and Ousmane Dembélé have appeared in those ads. The photos used in the materials were taken at the training camp of the French national team. However, the team’s players were not told exactly what the pictures were going to be used for.
Mbappe and Cherki have demanded an explanation from the French federation. They also want the advertising campaign in question to be stopped.
Mbappé, who represents Real Madrid at the club team level, criticized the advertising of sports betting and junk food as early as 2024.
– We are role models. Some of us come from areas where that stuff has ruined the lives of countless people. I know people who have had this happen to them, Mbappé stated.
