A visitor died last night during the metal, punk and hardcore festival Pitfest in Emmen. Afterwards, live music on the festival grounds was stopped.
Someone became unwell during Gorilla Biscuits’ performance, the organization said in a statement on their website. “Despite the rapid deployment of the emergency services and medical professionals present, assistance was unfortunately of no avail. It was later determined that there was a natural cause of death.”
“Out of respect for the deceased, his family, friends and everyone affected by this sad news, we decided at that moment to stop the live music,” the organization continues. “Our thoughts go out to the relatives.”
This year Pitfest is being held for the tenth time. During that period, the festival has grown into a multi-day event with two stages and numerous artists from home and abroad.
Due to the many rules that make organizing a festival increasingly difficult, the organization has decided that this edition is the last major edition of the Pitfest.
The death of a visitor is a blow to the organization. “Pitfest has always been a place where people come together around music, friendship and connection. That is precisely why this loss touches us deeply,” the organization said. “Words fail at times like these.”
