Because the Danish handball world champion Lasse Andersson is moving the Füchse Berlin back to his homeland as planned in the summer despite the relegation of his new club, the top HBL club is looking for a new man for the backcourt. The desired scenario: Bring Simon Pytlick from SG Flensburg-Handewitt to the capital in 2026 instead of 2027. However, this undertaking remains difficult.

Simon Pytlick’s contract with SG Flensburg-Handewitt would actually be dated until 2030. However, Füchse Berlin has an exit clause for 2027, which according to “Bild” is 750,000 euros. The second-placed team in the handball Bundesliga doesn’t actually want to wait that long and is apparently trying to convince the HBL competitor to change this year with “extremely high offers”.

So far, these efforts have all come to nothing. Will that still change? Coach and sports director Nicolej Krickau did not want to answer this question at “handball-world”. There is currently no movement in the poker game surrounding the Danish superstar, said the Berlin coach and explained: “We know that our season starts on July 19th with our preparation. Of course we want to have a solution sooner.”

Handball: Foxes superstar Gidsel is hoping for Pytlick

The Dane further explained that his Foxes had “several variants” on the table: “The entire squad will be set up before the first match day.” It seems questionable that Pytlick will then wear a Foxes jersey. “We’re not saying anything at the moment,” explained Krickau when asked whether there were still negotiations with SG Flensburg-Handewitt: “There is no development in the Simon Pytlick case at the moment.”

Superstar Matthias Gidsel is somewhat optimistic. “I’m also so naive that I think we’ll find a solution,” says the 27-year-old, referring to the big gap that world champion Lasse Andersson is leaving behind with his departure to Denmark. The world handball player says he doesn’t know whether his compatriot Pytlick will be the replacement. In any case, he would welcome his transfer.

“I always hope that the best players in the world come to us – and preferably as quickly as possible,” said the left-hander: “I understand 100 percent that this is a difficult situation.”
