Sprinter Owen Ansah beat his German record in the 100 m by a hundredth of a second.
After the athlete from Hamburger SV became the first German to run under ten seconds almost two years ago, he improved his record on Saturday evening at the Sparkasse Gala in Regensburg with a time of 9.98 seconds.
“We train for such times and such races. The fact that I managed to do this in the second race of the season is a surprise for me. I’m very happy that the time is already here,” said the 25-year-old.
In June 2024, Ansah broke the magical 10-second mark for the first time in Braunschweig with 9.99 seconds. Ten years earlier, Julian Reus became the current record holder with 10.01 seconds.
