Will there be a Bavarian final in the Basketball Bundesliga? After FC Bayern, who moved into the final series, the Bamberg Baskets force the decisive game five in their play-off series against Alba Berlin with their second win.

“Freak City” is what they call the town of Bamberg in basketball. This is mainly due to the cauldron games in the championship times of the 2000s and 2010s, the Upper Franconians were crowned Germany’s title holders nine times. Bamberg determined German basketball – and the fans determined the mood of the league.

Now Bamberg is preparing to at least become a finalist in the German play-offs again. After the confident 81:67 (36:36) victory, they equalized the best-of-five series in the semifinals against Berlin to 2:2.

Semifinal winner meets FC Bayern Munich

The deciding game will take place on Tuesday (8.30 p.m. in the live stream on BR24Sport) in the German capital. The winner of the game will then face the heavy favorites FC Bayern Munich in the final series, which also ends after three wins for one team.

Both Bamberg and Berlin initially had problems finding their offensive rhythm on Saturday evening in the immediately intense game. Alba got off to a better start with 6:2, but a weak free throw rate prevented them from taking a bigger lead.

Bamberg decides the game in the final quarter

And so Bamberg was able to turn the game around at the end of the first quarter with two successful three-pointers and better use of free throws. Alba was behind for almost the entire game because the hosts made fewer mistakes.

Especially in the final quarter it rained successful Bamberg three-point throws, but Berlin’s rate became increasingly weaker. Five and a half minutes before the end, the Upper Franconians finally pulled ahead to 71:56. This meant the game was decided early. And Bamberg’s hope for the Bavarian duel with FC Bayern is alive.
