Celebrations from the DFB women

LIVE: Germany vs Norway

With a zero win

As of: June 5, 2026 10:26 p.m

The German footballers have already secured qualification for the 2027 World Cup in Brazil. National coach Christian Wück’s team secured first place in the group with a 2-0 (2-0) win against Norway one match day before the end.

The team, which was led onto the field for the first time by temporary captain Sjoeke Nüsken, initially shone through its effectiveness on Friday evening. Debutante Marie Müller (18th) and Carlotta Wamser (27th) converted the first two chances and created a very good atmosphere among the 33,425 fans at the first international match in the 1. FC Köln stadium.

In the absence of the injured Giulia Gwinn and the suspended Janina Minge, the game could have ended differently. The DFB women also had goalkeeper Ann-Katrin Berger to thank for the fact that the score remained 2-0, as she got fit just in time after her abdominal injury.

After making qualifying even more exciting with a 0-0 draw in Austria, they can now go into the last international match before the summer break on Tuesday (6 p.m.) in Ljubljana, Slovenia, in a relaxed manner. The DFB can already plan for the World Cup trip to Brazil.

At the bottom of the group with no points until then, Germany’s footballers showed a very poor performance and gave up in the World Cup qualification for the first time.

Germany takes advantage of the first chance…

Germany started the game against Norway dominantly. Müller particularly attracted attention on the right wing in her first game for the senior national team. But the defensive Scandinavians initially didn’t allow any chances.

Marie Müller scored her first goal on her national team debut.

In the 18th minute, however, left-back Wamser undermined the entire opponent’s defense with a pass. Klara Bühl took off on the wing. Linda Dallmann only touched the ball in the middle after the cross. However, right-back Müller was lurking behind – and she calmly scored to make it 1-0.

… and follows up with the second one

As in the first leg, the German players shone with their ability to convert their chances. First they successfully defended themselves against the Norwegian equaliser, then they struck again. Dallmann sprinted through the opponent’s half with the ball and laid it off perfectly for Wamser in the penalty area. The Leverkusen player shot directly and refined the pass into the far corner to make it 2-0 (27′).

World Cup qualification

Germany’s footballers are celebrating a surprisingly clear success in what is probably their toughest competitor for group victory in the World Cup qualification.

Norway’s goal doesn’t count

Shortly before the break there was a brief moment of shock. Signe Gaupset scored what was supposed to be the next goal – but the flag went up, offside (42nd)! However, this decision would probably not have stood up to video evidence, which does not exist in World Cup qualifying. Lucky for Berger and Co.

The German defense was now floundering more often. In stoppage time, the goalkeeper was there with a strong save against Lisa Naalsund as well as shortly after the restart against Norway captain Caroline Graham Hansen and a little later Elisabeth Terland (54th).

DFB women win safely in the end

Germany struggled for a long time after the break. Wück tried offensive changes (66th) – and the team was actually able to free itself more at the beginning of the final phase. After a remarkable solo from the left side, Dallmann did not bring the ball dangerously towards Cecilie Fiskerstrand’s goal (73′). The keeper was also there for Bühl’s powerful but unplaced shot (81′).

In the end, the German team achieved an unchallenged and overall not undeserved victory. Norway, on the other hand, can only qualify for the World Cup through the play-offs.
