German national soccer player Laura Freigang is now officially facing trouble for failing to report doping tests. The penalty could be a ban of up to two years.

Laura Freigang from Eintracht Frankfurt is now officially facing trouble for failure to report doping tests. The National Anti Doping Agency (NADA) confirmed on Friday that the captain of Bundesliga club Eintracht Frankfurt had three strikes within twelve months. NADA made the incident public during Germany’s World Cup qualifier against Norway, where the 28-year-old was not part of the squad.

NADA spoke of a “possible violation of anti-doping regulations” and the case was forwarded to the German Football Association (DFB). He is responsible for the disciplinary proceedings and will “examine and evaluate the facts at hand and decide on the determination of a violation of anti-doping regulations and the corresponding sanctions.”

There had previously been several media reports about the Freigang case. There is no suspicion of doping against the DFB top scorer, all of her tests were negative, wrote the kicker. According to Sport1, Freigang is said to have not been at the specified location three times within a year. Three “strikes” lead to disciplinary proceedings; the penalty is a ban of up to two years.

Freigang is not part of the squad for the World Cup qualifier on Tuesday in the Slovenian capital Ljubljana (6 p.m./ZDF), but is nominated on call. “We see other players ahead of her in her position,” national coach Christian Wück said about his decision the previous week.
