Only 499 examples at a price of 600 thousand euros each, and then the task of redefining the style of the German company in the years to come: it was designed by the Italian Massimo Frascella

Exquisitely hybrid, with a V8 turbo petrol engine capable of reaching up to 10 thousand rpm, and then undoubtedly sporty, as the model could not fail to be more powerful and faster who has ever created the German brand, which however chooses a Italian designeras is the name. The new one Audi is called Nuvolaria driver and legend in whom even Enzo Ferrari recognized “mechanical sensitivity and almost inhuman courage”. Tazio “was a lion”, Audi Nuvolari today dares with 1,001 HP of overall power, but also redefines the style and ambitions of the Ingolstadt company for the years to come thanks to the work of the Creative Director Massimo Frascella. Only 499 examples will be produced, delivered starting from the first half of 2027, with a price of approximately 600 thousand euros each. Above all, it is a car that continues to talk about cars.

1Design and aerodynamics

By participating in the presentation ceremony which took place in Antibes, on the French Riviera, we understand why the most absolute secret. The reason is not only the confidentiality surrounding the individual model, but rather the attention not to anticipate a strategy which from 2028 will see all the cars in the range progressively changed, transformed by aesthetic language wanted by Massimo Frascella, from his idea of extreme simplification of forms, of seeking luxury by enhancing mechanical functionality. It’s not about minimalism at all, because as we get closer to the car we find automotive culturesearch for tense surfaces interrupted by precise lines. Nuvolari is not an exhibition. It was created by combining Audi Space Frame technology for the aluminum chassis with a carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) body, for lightness and high structural resistance. Audi has not communicated the dimensions of the car, but the comparison in terms of dimensions is with Lamborghini Temerario and its 470 cm in length.

Nuvolari adds more linear shapes, even if they hide one sophisticated active aerodynamics which regulates downforce, drag and balance in response to all driving conditions. The element that replaces the traditional one is very particular Audi grillebecause it contains a large number of electronically regulated flaps that open or close individually, regulating the passage of air in the S-Duct duct that crosses the front bonnet, i.e. improving efficiency and generating greater thrust at high speeds, but at the same time also guaranteeing the cooling of the mechanics. Perhaps the most visible element is the retractable adaptive rear wingin its three closed configurations, low downforce LD and high downforce HD. In performance-oriented driving modes, such as Dynamic, Dynamic+ and Track, it works fully automatically, but on straights the system switches to the LD position to optimize top speed and stability.

2Interior

Speaking with Massimo Frascella, we perhaps expected more emphasis on interior design. The Audi Creative Director instead aimed straight at quality of materials chosen, to the front section finished in a deep, dark shade designed to aid concentration. Nuvolari has one functional logicgroups together display areas and controls directly in the driver’s field of vision. Quality materials and metal switches with a clean click, worthy of a high-level audio system, become the accompaniment of a real user interface designed to be intuitive, which leads to fast reaction times. Nothing spectacular on board, but one flawless execution even in detail.

3Motor

The answer is “No”. Nuvolari will not be electric, but if anything it designs a scenario in which the plug-in hybrid engine takes the lead in the sportiest Audi offer, at least for the next 5 years. The protagonist is the 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 which delivers 800 HP and a maximum torque of 730 Nm, but above all it reaches 10,000 rpm, which is at least unusual for supercharged engines that are not intended for competitions. Two oil-cooled electric motors on the front axle deliver torque of up to 2,150 Nm, while a third is positioned between the V8 and the transmission. The maximum system power is 736 kW (1,001 HP). The lithium-ion battery has a gross capacity of 7.3 kWh. The Audi Nuvolari accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.6 seconds, from 0 to 200 km/h in 6.8 seconds and exceeds a top speed of 350 km/h.

4Quattro all-wheel drive

Quattro all-wheel drive has been an Audi hallmark since 1977. This acronym, strictly in Italian, has crossed generations of cars, proposing not only thrust on all wheels, but rather the very idea of manage the driving torque. Nuvolari raises the bar even higher with the system four predictive rideswhich processes the driving state based on a digital model of the vehicle that obtains information from sensors. Steering angle, acceleration, yaw rate and instantaneous level of grip are continuously compared. If the system anticipates a potential loss of grip when cornering, it reacts. The brakes stabilize the vehicle through targeted interventions and reduce slipping, while the electric motors on the front axle allow dosing on both sides of the car when cornering and at high speeds. The driver can also control the system via the rotary controls on the steering wheel, with four driving modes which favor transmission, vehicle dynamics and efficiency in a different way: E-Hybrid allows all-electric driving for urban use and short distances; Balanced that combines efficiency and performance; Dynamic aimed at best agility; Dynamic+for high performance.
