The controversial investor Hasan Ismaik spoke out on social networks after TSV 1860 Munich crashed into the regional league. The Jordanian initially stated matter-of-factly that the Munich team would not receive a third division license.
“Nevertheless, I am convinced that TSV 1860 Munich will one day return to the place it deserves. This club is bigger than a single season and bigger than any crisis,” wrote Ismaik. 1860 stands “on a proud foundation of history, tradition and passionate fans, which have always been its greatest strength”.
When the deadline expired on Wednesday at 5:00 p.m., the Munich team was unable to provide the necessary proof of liquidity to the German Football Association (DFB). “The reason for this is that our shareholder Hasan Ismaik and his affiliated companies have not fulfilled their financing commitment,” said the third division club.
According to reports, 2.7 million euros are missing for the license. The DFB still has to examine the case conclusively. According to the “Süddeutsche Zeitung”, Ismaik wrote via WhatsApp: “Sad day.” He publicly commented: “Until late into the night it seemed as if we were on the verge of an agreement. The necessary financial resources were available for immediate implementation. Unfortunately, in the end we were unable to reach the necessary consensus between all parties involved.”
His post on social media continued: “I would like to thank all the fans who have accompanied the club over these years, as well as all the people who have honestly fought for its interests. I sincerely hope that this difficult moment will be the starting point for an honest assessment and a better future.” Numerous Lions fans denounced the investor in the comments.
Forced relegation from 1860 Munich: Who could move up to the 3rd league
Before the season, the Munich Lions invested in the squad in order to return to the 2nd Bundesliga. Among other things, experienced Bundesliga professionals such as Florian Niederlechner and Kevin Volland were brought in. With a squad value of 9.2 million euros, the club is the fourth most valuable team, but only finished the season in ninth place and exited the promotion race early. Now the bitter reality is the regional league instead of the lower house. TSV Havelse or Erzgebirge Aue could benefit from the relegation in 1860. According to the DFB statutes, the Lower Saxony team would be the first to be relegated after Munich, but due to the unresolved stadium issue, it is uncertain whether the club will accept this. Then Aue would manage to stay in the league at the green table. 1. FC Lokomotive Leipzig, who lost the promotion games against the Würzburger Kickers, would not move up.
