Rock in the blood
Violet Grohl is only twenty years old, but has a good dose of rock in her blood: She is the daughter of former Nirvana drummer Dave Grohl, who now sings and plays guitar as the founder of the Foo Fighters. Violet Grohl was born with the electric guitar. She has already lent her voice on two tracks by the Foo Fighters: She can be heard as a guest singer on “Making a Fire” and “Show Me How”.
But Violet Grohl doesn’t let her father’s name define her – she found her way to music herself: she taught herself several instruments and built her very own sound. Musically close to the alternative of the 80s and 90s, she is inspired by artists such as the Pixies, Björk and Alice in Chains. A mosaic of influences that flow into their album from music, but also series like “Twin Peaks” and old silent films. While her father was supportive of her music, he always wanted her to follow her own path. In an interview with Musikexpress, she reflects on her privilege of growing up so close to the music scene: “Of course, my background gave me a lot of opportunities, and I know that. But music is really my passion. It was nice to do something on my own.”
It’s worth forming your own opinion of Grohl instead of simply labeling her as a Foo Fighters daughter. You could be surprised by the musical stylistic confidence of the twenty-year-old.
