Galatasaray’s star players Lucas Torreira and Mauro Icardi made remarkable statements on the club’s YouTube channel.
Answering the question of when they believed they would become champions, Torreira said: “In the first match. Who did we play against?” he laughed. Icardi said, “We said it in the first match of the league. This year was difficult. We had to win against Fenerbahçe. If we had not won that match, everything could have been very difficult in the last three weeks.” he said.
“NEXT SEASON”
When asked which championship was the most difficult, Lucas Torreira laughed and said, “Next season’s one.” he replied.
“HE SCORES ONE GOAL A YEAR”
When Torreira was asked about the match he could not forget this season, Mauro Icardi said humorously, “Fenerbahçe. He scores one goal a year.” he said. Thereupon, Torreira said, “I only score in important matches. Only in derbies.” He responded.

Torreira asked, “What is the best goal you scored?” Answering the question, Icardi said, “Manchester United. I slipped after the goal… I missed the penalty and made up for it.” he said.

When asked which was the best match in his Galatasaray career, Torreira said, “The best match we played in the four years I played at Galatasaray was the Bayern Munich match, although we got 0 points.” he replied.
Icardi said about that match, “We lost both of them. Torreira’s goal was not counted because I was offside.” he said.
Torreira also described that moment as “It was my best moment of joy in football. When I turned my head and saw the offside flag, I was devastated.” He explained it with his words.
“WINNING IS NOT EASY”
Referring to Galatasaray’s success in recent years, Lucas Torreira said, “We have become the biggest team in Türkiye, but winning has become easier. Expectations are always higher. We have been champions for four years, but it is not easy. When you look at other teams, this is clear. They cannot win. It is not easy to win at all.” he said.

Speaking about the development of Turkish football, Mauro Icardi said, “We came to Türkiye and at the end of four years, Türkiye is participating in the World Cup after many years. We have increased the level.” he said.
Lucas Torreira said, “With the arrival of him and other players, the level of the league has increased. You don’t come here on holiday anymore. There is serious competition.” he said.
