Since February, Verdonkschot’s duties have been taken over by assistant coach Maarten Woudenberg. After Verdonkschot recently fully recovered, talks about a contract extension resumed and an agreement was quickly reached.

“A first season at a new club is never easy. The trainer has to get used to players and staff, and the other way around, of course. I feel like I am not ready yet at the RKAV. I would like to work with players, staff and board to build a stable second division player,” says Verdonkschot in an initial response on the club’s website.
RKAV Volendam finished this season in a creditable 13th place in the second division, the highest amateur level in the Netherlands. Three rounds before the end, the club stated, despite a defeat against AFC, all enforcement safe.
