A 31-year-old man from Norg was arrested last night after his car fell into the water in Haulerwijk. The police suspect him of driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs.
The accident happened on the Elleboogsvaart. The car left the road and ended up in a ditch.
The driver was alone in the vehicle and managed to get out of the car in time before it disappeared completely under water. Paramedics examined him at the scene.
According to police, both an alcohol and drug test came back positive. The man was subsequently arrested on suspicion of cannabis use and driving under the influence of alcohol.
Nothing is yet known about the cause of the accident. The suspect has been transferred to the cell complex in Assen.
