Four years of amateur football are history: The Würzburger Kickers beat Lok Leipzig in the second duel for relegation to the 3rd league and return to professional business. The cheering at Dallenberg knows no bounds.
The Würzburger Kickers secured promotion to the 3rd league in a thrilling relegation second leg against Lok Leipzig. After the 1-0 win last Friday, the runner-up in the Regionalliga Bayern won 2-1 (1-0) on home soil and will return to professional business next season.
Nischalke puts Würzburg in the lead
Both teams didn’t need much time to get into the game. Tough duels alternated with top-class chances on both sides of the pitch. Ultimately, it was the team from Würzburg that took the lead.
Tarsis Bonga was sent to the right wing, where the giant took advantage of his speed and crossed low into the penalty area. There, Jermain Nischalke ran in perfectly and slammed the ball into the net to make it 1-0 for the Kickers (1-0).
Ziane equalizes for Leipzig
The deficit noticeably took away the momentum of the guests from Saxony. Until the break, the Franconian home team had several good opportunities to increase the score to 2-0, but were unable to take advantage of them.
After the break the game slowed down a bit, even though Würzburg remained in control. Leipzig’s equalizer was all the more surprising. Christoph Maier broke through on the left side of the baseline and brought a cross into the middle of the box. He found a grateful receiver in Djamal Ziane, who scored to make it 1-1 (71′).
Cisse shoots Würzburg into the 3rd league
Würzburg responded to the sudden setback in the best way imaginable: the Kickers came in front of the Lok goal almost immediately. A powerful shot from Nischalke was blocked, but the ball landed at Cherif Cisse, who had just been substituted, who stayed cool and made it 2-1 65 seconds after Ziane’s goal (72nd).
In the final phase there was a bit of excitement in the Würzburg penalty area. An attempt by the guests apparently bounced off the crossbar behind the goal line of the Kickers’ box, but was not awarded as a goal.
