“I’m looking forward to it,” says pub owner Hares. Yet most people we spoke to are not that enthusiastic about the upcoming world championship. “Football is not my favorite sport.”
There are also few orange flags in the Amsterdam street scene. “That will change in the coming days,” promises Hares from Café Langereis.
Tour boats
A little further on is the location of Rederij Kooij. In 1988 they were the proud owners of the tour boat with the Dutch national team on board. The day before, the selection of national coach Rinus Michels won the European title. The festive images of the Orange Madness in and around the Amsterdam canals went around the world.
