The Lions were able to achieve a unique feat this season. Finland was the only country that took a medal from both men’s Olympic hockey and the World Championships.
At the Milan-Cortina Olympics, the Lions won bronze. The season culminated in the world championship the night before Monday in Switzerland.
– We are the only country that won a medal for both. The whole of Finnish ice hockey can be proud of that. It is the result of longer work. This year we managed to be really united. A tough achievement for all of Finnish hockey, head coach Antti Pennanen said on Monday at the national festival.
Pennanen described this season’s Leijon as a unified top team where everyone can be themselves. The head coach was happy at the party.
– I am happy and happy, the gold coach said about his mood.
At the Olympics, the United States won gold and Canada won silver. Switzerland won the silver at the World Championships, the surprise country Norway won the bronze.
In addition to this season’s achievements, Pennanen has won, among other things, the Finnish championship and under-20 World Cup bronze and silver as head coach. As an assistant coach, he also has the world championship from 2019 under his belt.

Anton Lundell kissed the World Cup trophy. Pasi Liesimaa
Lions striker Anton Lundell24, has already won hugely in his career. There are two Stanley cups in the trophy cabinet, Olympic bronze, under-20 World Cup gold and now also the adult world championship.
– I love winning. I hope I can win many more times. It takes hard work. I’m just grateful that I’ve been able to play in great teams and have had opportunities. Now there was another chance to win a medal. I’m satisfied that we got the job done, Lundell said on Monday.
According to the star, you kind of get used to hard games, but you want more meaningful matches. It was also one of the reasons behind Lundell’s trip to the World Cup.
The NHL season of the Florida Panthers represented by Lundell ended this time with the regular season. Lundell knew the teammate Alexander Barkov going to the World Championships and also decided to jump on the Swiss plane himself.
– I noticed that my body felt good and my mind was clear. I wanted to win. Playing hard games is the best thing I know.
– Now it went as well as it can. It’s incredibly cool that we won the gold.
Lundell has not been the party’s master of ceremonies. However, he was given the task of music supervisor on the plane and on the team bus.
– I guess I have a playlist ready. The guys wanted me to throw some set. Quite a lot of Finns have played. Many songs that we have listened to in the booth during the tournament.
