Completely unexpectedly, second division professional Lars Bünning had to undergo emergency surgery. His club Dynamo Dresden is affected.

Defender Lars Bünning from second division soccer team Dynamo Dresden was in danger of death after suffering a cerebral hemorrhage and had to undergo surgery. As the club announced, the cerebral hemorrhage occurred spontaneously and without external influence. The 28-year-old’s operation was successful.

Bünning is fully conscious and continues to receive intensive care. Dynamo wants to communicate further information about the state of health and the rehabilitation process in close coordination with the relatives.

“Absolutely shocking moment”

“The news was an absolute shock for us. In situations like this, football takes a complete backseat because nothing is more valuable than health. Fortunately, the operation went very well and Lars is fully conscious again.

The entire club’s thoughts are with him and his family. We will provide him with the best possible support in his recovery process,” said Sören Gonther, Sports Director, in a club statement.

The Hamburg native moved from 1. FC Kaiserslautern to Dynamo in 2023 and was promoted to the 2nd Bundesliga with Dresden a year ago. In the season that just ended, Bünning only made twelve appearances and scored one goal. He still has a contract until 2027.
