Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu sees a possible deal between the US and Iran as “downright disastrous” and blames US President Donald Trump for “the debacle”. A senior political source told the news site ‘Al-Monitor’, which specializes in the Middle East. Netanyahu is in danger of having to pay the ultimate price.

There is increasing speculation in Israel that Netanyahu will be forced to resign to avoid defeat in the upcoming elections this fall. He could link that to an agreement to avoid a possible prison sentence after corruption charges.

Netanyahu vowed the downfall of Iran, but the Iranian regime is currently more firmly in power than ever. And the American-Iranian deal does not bode well either. After all, one of Iran’s demands is that there is a ceasefire in Lebanon, where Israel has invaded in the fight against the terrorist group Hezbollah.

Bad

According to Israeli opposition leader Yair Lapid, the potential deal is “bad for Israel, bad for the region and bad for the citizens of Iran.”

And it didn’t even have to get this far. According to Israeli intelligence services, the regime in Iran could have been overthrown at the start of the war if Trump had agreed to Israel’s plans, including arming Kurdish minorities. That would further fuel Netanyahu’s frustration.

According to a senior Israeli intelligence source at Al-Monitor, that plan to overthrow the Iranian regime with the help of the Kurds was “extensive and detailed.” “The Kurds were eager to carry out the operation. It was not a stunt. The Americans know that very well, because they have been extensively briefed. But Washington stepped on the brakes at the last minute.”

Erdogan

The latter is said to have happened under pressure from Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. Turkey is one of the most outspoken critics of Israel’s military campaign in Gaza. Erdogan last week called Netanyahu “a tyrant who will get the lesson he deserves”:

Whatever the case, the fact is that Netanyahu has found himself in a difficult position. “This time, the prime minister’s hands are tied. He is completely paralyzed and knows he won’t be able to do anything even if the US-Iran deal remains the disastrous deal he now sees it as,” said one aide.

Trump previously said that Netanyahu “will do what I want him to do”:

According to the source, Netanyahu has now reached the point where he longs for the days of President Joe Biden and even Barack Obama. “Now he can only nod when Trump says something,” it sounds.

Fury

The relationship between the US and Israel has been under strain for some time. Two weeks ago, Netanyahu was beside himself with anger after a phone call with Trump about the war in the Middle East. Netanyahu wants to go for the attack decisively, while Trump wants to “turn over every stone to reach an agreement.”
