The German national team is traveling to the USA on Tuesday after the convincing World Cup test against Finland. This is the timetable until the start of the World Cup.
Julian Nagelsmann left the Mainz stadium at midnight in a good mood. “We can carry on like this,” said the national coach after the national team’s 4-0 win against Finland in the penultimate World Cup friendly. The 90 minutes delivered numerous winners and valuable insights exactly two weeks before the tournament emergency in Houston against Curaçao. “I’m very satisfied for a long time,” summarized Nagelsmann.
“We have the strength to always score goals.” That wasn’t just the coach’s opinion, but the central insight of the lively evening in the sold-out Mainz stadium. It took a while, but then Deniz Undav scored twice. And the exceptional players Jamal Musiala and Florian Wirtz, who were finally reunited in the DFB jersey after 14 months, were also successful.

The national coach also showed the courage to be youthful and carefree. Nathaniel Brown is preparing to displace Leipzig captain David Raum with his technique and dynamism in the left-back position. The 22-year-old from Frankfurt just had some good scenes offensively.
Karl or Sané?
And on the right wing, Lennart Karl is making steam. “He has youthful freshness,” Nagelsmann explained on ZDF about the 18-year-old’s first starting eleven. Karl dribbled, Karl passed, Karl hit the outside post (55th). And he also worked diligently towards the back. The youngest in the German World Cup squad tried a lot – and he is ahead of the experienced Galatasaray professional Leroy Sané, who fluctuates too much in his performance.

Julian Nagelsmann was able to draw some insights from the test match. Before leaving for the World Cup, the German national team will complete another small test against Finland on Monday. It won’t be 90 minutes on Monday, but “twice 20, twice 25,” said Nagelsmann. The game is “for those who didn’t play today or played less, to simply give them a rhythm to play again.”
In the afternoon there will be “a small event to be able to cool down mentally even in stressful phases,” said the national coach. On Tuesday we leave Frankfurt for the USA. The final test will take place in Chicago on June 6th against the World Cup co-hosts, before the World Cup really gets started on June 14th against Curaçao.
