A new wind has been blowing in the French biathlon team for a few weeks now. With the arrival of shooting coach Siegfried Mazet, the training content also changed. Oscar Lombardot is already impressed after their first training camp together.
Newcomer Siegfried Mazet made a huge impression on the French biathlon stars in the first few weeks.
“Siegfried’s approach is extremely interesting,” said Oscar Lombardot after the first joint training camp with his new shooting coach. However, the biathlete didn’t want to get much more out of it because: “This is just the beginning and we’re still getting to know each other better. So let’s take it one step at a time.”
France’s biathlon stars needed “something new”.
What the 26-year-old did admit: After many years under Jean-Pierre Amat, it was time for a breath of fresh air at the shooting range.
“I loved the time we spent with Jean-Pierre, whom I also thank, because thanks to him French biathlon has reached its level. But perhaps we needed something new, a new approach to shooting,” said Lombardot.
Mazet has now brought this approach to the team. Whether it will bear fruit in the end remains to be seen. It is still too early for Lombardot to draw a conclusion. The first units were primarily necessary “to understand how each of us works,” said the biathlete.
The French association had already tried to sign Mazet last season, who was previously responsible for leading the Norwegians around Johannes Thingnes Bø to the top of the World Cup. In his home country, the shooting coach is now supposed to help align everything with the “Project 2030”, the Olympic Games in his own country.
