Mick Schumacher had another highly disappointing Sunday in the IndyCar Series.
In the eighth race of the season on the road course in Detroit, the 27-year-old came home 21st and last after an accident – Schumacher had slipped into the barriers with his Team RLL Honda while he was fighting for his best position of the season.
The victory went to defending champion Alex Palou from Spain, who significantly extended his lead in the overall standings.
And Schumacher also played his part in this: after starting from 23rd place, he initially made his way up slightly, but then fell by the wayside during a pit stop phase by the competition in the second half of the race and suddenly found himself in the leading group.
In a tough duel with title candidate David Malukas, Schumacher turned into a sharp left-hand bend, but his car slid over the front axle into the barrier. Malukas also fell far behind as a result.
Schumacher’s best placement in his debut season in the USA remains 17th place.
The greatest experience, however, was the Indy 500: last weekend he completed 200 laps on the legendary circuit and finished 18th.
He was the best rookie and was named Rookie of the Year.
