Alexander Zverev confidently made it into the quarterfinals of the French Open 2026 on Sunday. With a three-set win against the Dutch Jesper De Jong, the Hamburg native impressively underlined his role as favorite. But the 29-year-old is not the only hot potato that the DTB still has in the fire. The German stars also impressed in doubles. With the offspring, however, there were light and shadows.

At just 15 years old, Ida Wobker has already caused a sensation on the ITF tour several times. Number 718 in the WTA ranking is the youngest player in the top 800 and has already won a small W15 tournament in 2025. The DTB hope was also expected to have a chance in the junior women’s competition at the French Open, but the tenth-seeded German had to admit defeat in the first round.

The South Korean Ha-eum Lee (number 942 in the world rankings) defeated Wobker in three sets 3:6, 6:1 and 6:4.

Things went better for the German juniors on Sunday: Vincent Reisach (number 1596 in the world rankings) had to admit defeat to the Indian Arnav Paparkar (number 1629 in the world rankings) 6:7 and 4:6, but qualifier Oliver Majdandzic (still in the ATP rankings) prevailed against the American Tanishk Konduri (number 1276 in the world rankings) without losing a set Third seeded Jamie Mackenzie (number 914 in the world rankings) against Konduri’s compatriot Safir Azam (still in the ATP rankings).

Siegemund still has chances in mixed doubles and doubles

DTB veteran Laura Siegemund also had a day made to measure. The doubles specialist reached the quarter-finals in the mixed doubles alongside Frenchman Edouard Roger-Vasselin. Siegemund/Roger-Vasselin, who won Roland Garros in 2024, clearly prevailed 6:2 and 6:4 against the French Kristina Mladenovic and Manuel Guinard.

In the quarterfinals, the American Desirae Krawczyk and the Briton Neal Skupski, the final opponents of 2024, are waiting and therefore an extremely high hurdle.

Siegemund is also in the round of the last eight in the women’s doubles, where she competes together with the Russian Vera Zvonareva and benefited from the fact that the Spanish Cristina Bucsa and Nicole Melichar-Martinez from the USA did not compete. Curious: Siegemund/Zvonareva benefited from a submission in the second round and only had to compete in the first round.

DTB shocks demand Krawietz/Pütz

Kevin Krawietz and Tim Pütz only reached the round of 16 in the men’s doubles competition on Sunday. Krawietz, who won the title with Andreas Mies in 2019 and 2020, and Pütze, who won mixed doubles in 2023, defeated Roman Andres Burruchaga and Thiago Agustin Tirante from Argentina 6:3 and 6:4.

In the round of 16 there will be a duel with N. Sriram Balaji from India and the Brazilian Marcelo Demoliner, who have already defeated Constantin Frantzen (with the Dutchman Robin Haase) and Jakob Schnaitter and Mark Wallner from the DTB during the tournament.

Schnaitter also lost in the mixed doubles with the Russian Irina Khromacheva in the mixed doubles round of 16 on Sunday.
