Due to a lot of violence, significant damage was caused at Vulcano Eetparadijs in Werkendam on Saturday night. A group of people smashed windows with a bicycle and then threw torches, chairs and fireworks inside. The violence is said to be related to an escalated argument between supporter groups of two amateur clubs earlier on Saturday in Wijk and Aalburg.
“I was serving when I suddenly heard screaming. Then a customer’s bicycle was grabbed and thrown in the direction of the window. The window was also broken as you can see,” says Sumeyye of Vulcano Eetparadijs, as she looks at the shards of glass on the ground. “I was shocked, I didn’t understand what was happening.”
Sumeyye saw torches, fireworks, a bicycle and chairs being thrown. “My brother was also hit by a chair,” she says. She says about the reason: “There would have been a fight between supporters of Kozak Boys 3 and Zwijndrechtse ZVV Pelikaan. What I understand is that the Pelikaan supporters came here to attack the supporters of Kozak Boys. They were eating here, you could see that from the football shirts.”

The residents in the street are not surprised that this has happened. “There is often a fight here in the street. Then they start fighting with twelve men. The police often come,” says a resident who lives further down the street.
Another resident adds: “Especially on Saturday night. But we don’t know whether anything will be done about that,” he says. He and his wife were shocked by the event. “We were just in bed and then heard a big bang and a lot of screaming. We looked outside and saw a big red glow, a fight and police. There were about fifty men walking around. It was a big fight.”
Wounded
According to Sumeyye, she and her family escaped unscathed. “But some customers did have injuries,” she says. One of the injured was taken to hospital, police said. Nothing is known about the exact nature of his injuries.
