The one who passed away on Thursday by Claude Lemieux the family has decided to donate the hockey legend’s brain to CTE research. Authorities say Lemieux committed suicide.
CTE is a degenerative neurological disease that often results from repeated blows to the head and concussions. Lemieux was known as a physical player who, for example, fought 36 times in his NHL career.
CTE can only be diagnosed after a person has died. Among the deceased hockey players, CTE is known to have affected, among others, those known as tough fighters Bob Probert and Derek Boogaard.
Lemieux’s family hopes that donating the puck hero’s brain to research would help better understand how to prevent brain injuries.
However, the family emphasizes in its announcement that it is only a gift to science, athletes and future generations who are looking for answers.
– No conclusions should be made at this stage regarding any diagnosis.
Lemieux passed away at the age of 60. He won, among other things, four Stanley Cups in his career. After his playing career, the scrappy attacker worked as a player-agent.
