First career title for Filippo Macchi. The Paris 2024 Olympic double silver medalist won the men’s final 15-7 in the derby at Fiamme Oro against Tommaso Marini. On a podium with all four members of the Italian team from the last French Olympics, Alessio Foconi from the Centro Sportivo Aeronautica Militare and Guillaume Bianchi from Gruppo Scherma Fiamme Gialle came in third place. “This thrilling location gave me even more energy. It was an intense period, for fencing and for studying, I am very happy to have won for the first time in my life an Italian title which here, in the heart of Rome, truly has a special flavour”, said Macchi after the success which also earned him the Livio Di Rosa Award, in memory of one of the legends of the Italian master class, offered by the Circolo Scherma Mestre.

Even in the women’s event, the last act was a Fiamme Oro match: Alice Volpi won and, after Milan 2018, Palermo 2019 and Cassino 2021, became Italian champion among foil players for the fourth time in her career, beating Martina Favaretto 15-8. Bronze medals for Anna Cristino of the Carabinieri Sports Center and Matilde Molinari of the Fiamme Gialle Scherma Group. “It is a victory that has great meaning for me and I am truly thrilled to have won this title in a splendid setting, on the Terrazza del Pincio in front of a beautiful audience”, her words. Tomorrow, on the second day, the protagonist will once again be the men’s and women’s foil which will award the titles to A1 series teams. The attacks on the Rome Fair will begin at 9 am while the finals for the gold will be staged at Terrazza del Pincio starting at 8 pm and live on Rai Sport.
