Turkish Football Federation (TFF) President İbrahim Hacıosmanoğlu made important statements in his statements to TRT Spor, touching on the foreign player rule discussions.

Emphasizing that the regulation of foreign players is not a new decision, Hacıosmanoğlu argued that some coaches and managers misled the public. Stating that clubs should give more opportunities to young football players, the TFF President also responded to criticism about the number of foreign players.

Calling on the club presidents, Hacıosmanoğlu said, “I request the club presidents to abandon their old habits. In the past, TFF presidents tried to establish good relations, especially with the four big clubs. We do not have such a problem. We have a responsibility towards this country. We serve the brand value of football. We do not aim to please everyone.”

Reminding that the foreign player rule was not announced this season, Hacıosmanoğlu said, “We announced this regulation last year. However, coaches and managers are misleading the public. Would the problems be solved if the 12 + 4 system was continued? Will you be saved with only two players difference?” he said.

Stating that Turkish football needs a different understanding about foreign players, Hacıosmanoğlu also pointed out the economic difficulties of the clubs and said, “This country should get rid of the foreign player garbage. Clubs are in debt. Is there no football player in Türkiye? If you give the young people a chance…”

Emphasizing the need to pave the way for young players, the TFF President cited Spanish star Lamine Yamal and national football players Arda Güler and Kenan Yıldız as examples. Hacıosmanoğlu said, “How old is Lamine Yamal playing? Arda Güler, Kenan Yıldız are obvious. You are bringing in players who are at the end of their careers. What benefit does this have for Turkish football?” made his assessment.

Hacıosmanoğlu, who also denied the allegations that the number of foreign players would be increased, put an end to the discussions by saying, “We did not promise 12+4 to anyone. We did not meet with anyone on such an issue.”
