It was restless throughout the country on Friday evening due to heavy thunderstorms. While the weather cleared up quite quickly in some parts, much of the country suffered from lightning strikes and trees on the road for a longer period of time.

Rijkswaterstaat soon warned that ‘you had to be careful’ on the roads. Especially in the northwest, the wind caused many branches and trees to fall onto the road. The fire brigade had to come to the rescue, which caused traffic to come to a standstill for some time and delays increased considerably.

Heavy thunderstorms passed over the country from the end of the afternoon. This caused major problems in several places. This caused several house fires.

House can no longer be saved

A lightning strike caused ‘a loud bang’, many flames and a now uninhabitable house in Bleskensgraaf. The residents had just completed a renovation. Now they saw their house collapse. The house could no longer be saved, it soon became apparent.

Code orange was ended throughout the country around 8 p.m. Not much later there was no longer any code yellow.
