After Fenerbahce-Aus

The end of Fenerbahce caught Domenico Tedesco unprepared at the end of April, but the Italian doesn’t have to wait too long for a new chapter. According to consistent reports, the 40-year-old is about to get involved in his home country. Tedesco is said to have reached an agreement with Bologna FC and the deal is in its final stages.
According to Fabrizio Romano, the former Schalke and Leipzig coach should sign for up to three years and succeed compatriot Vincenzo Italiano. The eighth-placed Serie A team announced on Thursday that it had agreed to an early termination of the Karlsruhe-born 48-year-old’s contract.
“Italiano has informed the club that after two seasons characterized by excellent results, he considers his time in Bologna to be over, regardless of any future professional prospects,” said a statement from Bologna FC, which has most likely found a suitable replacement in Tedesco.
If Tedesco takes over as planned, it would be his seventh stop in the fifth country at the age of 40. His star as head coach once rose at Erzgebirge Aue when he was just 31 years old. He took over at the Violets in March 2017 and only played eleven games on the sidelines because Bundesliga club FC Schalke 04 needed a successor for Markus Weinzierl. He led the Royal Blues straight to the runner-up position before S04 floundered in sporting terms.
Tedesco’s career: Via Russia, Germany and Belgium to Turkey
Tedesco then worked at Spartak Moscow in Russia (October 2019 to June 2021), at RB Leipzig (December 2021 to September 2022), as Belgian national coach (February 2023 to January 2025) and most recently at Fenerbahce in Turkey (September 2025 to April 2026).
“We had just discussed an early contract extension,” the coach recently told “dpa” about his release from the Süper Lig. “Now we are going our separate ways after the second league defeat this season.” With the traditional Turkish club, he lost the derby 3-0 to leaders and city rivals Galatasaray. “This shows once again how fast-moving football has become,” emphasized Tedesco.
