Just two weeks before the start of the 2026 World Cup, US national coach Mauricio Pochettino is coming into focus because of his personal future. He is said to have held talks with AC Milan as the Italians look for a new coach following the sacking of Max Allegri.

According to information from “The Athletic”, the meeting took place last week. Pochettino’s contract with the US association is valid until July 31st. A future beyond the home World Cup was recently open.

Meanwhile, the trainer reacted meaningfully to the Milan rumor on Thursday. During a media round, he emphasized twice that he had not personally met with Milan representatives. However, he reacted less clearly when asked whether his advisors had entered into discussions with the top Italian club. “Maybe. Possibly. Because my advisors have to do their job,” Pochettino hinted at an exchange.

According to his understanding, this is a normal procedure: “Do you think that the people who represent different coaches don’t have discussions with different clubs?”

However, it is important for him that speculation surrounding a departure from the US association does not change his focus. “Those who doubt my commitment are people who want to cause trouble,” said the 54-year-old. “If I don’t have the commitment, what am I doing here?”

Pochettino has been coaching the US national team since September 2024. He previously worked at Tottenham Hotspur, PSG and Chelsea, among others.
