Two years after leaving Hamburger SV, Jonas Boldt has a new job in German professional football. The 44-year-old will be Hannover 96’s new sports director and successor to Jörg Schmadtke. The second division soccer team announced this.
Boldt will take up his post on June 1st and his contract runs until May 31st, 2029. “Sport Bild” first reported on the personnel.
“Jonas Boldt brings a high level of knowledge expertise, market knowledge and experience in professional football,” said Hanover’s supervisory board chairman Martin Kind.
“He has worked in responsible positions for many years. In our discussions together, he gave a very clear picture of how he would like to structure and develop the sporting area.”
Boldt was HSV’s sports director from 2019 to 2024 and during this time he failed several times to achieve his big goal: returning to the Bundesliga. Before that, he worked for Bayer Leverkusen in various functions for twelve years.
Becker was Boldt’s predecessor in Hamburg
His predecessor in Hamburg was Ralf Becker, who currently works as sports director in Hanover and is therefore hierarchically subordinate to Boldt. The new sports director made it clear right from the start that he wanted to continue working with Becker and coach Christian Titz.
“The discussions were open, clear and trusting from the start. Now it’s about getting to know the club well quickly and shaping the sporting future together with Ralf Becker and the coaching team around Christian Titz,” said Boldt. “I am firmly convinced that we can achieve and develop a lot of positive things together here in Hanover.”
