FC Barcelona – and not FC Bayern – is in the race for England international Anthony Gordon. Barca president Joan Laporta confirms the deal is on the home stretch. Gordon is already flying in for a medical check.
FC Barcelona will be strengthening themselves next season with winger Anthony Gordon, who is also courted by FC Bayern.
“The signing of Gordon is in full swing. I have been kept informed about everything,” Joan Laporta told Spanish newspaper Sport. Laporta was re-elected club president in March and will begin his third term in office in the summer.
According to the paper, the Gordon transfer will be finalized shortly. The left winger is scheduled to land in Barcelona early on Thursday afternoon and complete the obligatory medical check.
At midday, Sky Sports reporter Keith Downie published a video on X that showed Gordon boarding a private jet. After his arrival in Catalonia, Gordon will sign his contract with the Spanish champions, it is said.
FC Bayern still in the race until the last minute?
According to Mundo Deportivo, the attacker has signed a five-year contract with Barca. The club around head coach Hansi Flick is said to have agreed on a basic fee of 70 million euros with Newcastle United. Bonuses of up to ten million euros should be added. They should depend on possible title wins and Gordon’s share of the game under Flick.
Apparently FC Bayern also fought until the end to sign the 25-year-old. As the English portal “The Chronicle” writes, both Barca and FC Bayern are said to have submitted an offer to Newcastle United on Wednesday. The Munich-based team ultimately withdrew from poker, the report says.
Gordon had been considered a summer signing for the German record champions for weeks. Recently, however, the trend has been towards a conclusion, also due to the high costs.
