The fourth suspect in the unprecedented brawl on the coastal tram in De Haan has turned himself in to the police. It concerns a 19-year-old man from Brussels. He was arrested on the spot and taken to the police station of PZ Bredene/De Haan. He is being interrogated by the police today.

Regional journalist at HLN

The incident took place on Sunday around 7:30 PM on a coastal tram near the Vosseslag stop in De Haan. During a check, four people were unable to produce a valid ticket. Three suspects fled, while an eighteen-year-old man from Ninove was stopped by De Lijn employees. However, his three comrades returned, and a skirmish ensued. Several inspectors from De Lijn and the tram driver were injured.

The same three suspects fled again. The other suspect was arrested by the police, but 18-year-old Ninovieter behaved unruly. Two police officers were injured. One of the victims is also said to be incapacitated due to the incident.

The next day, his two nineteen-year-old companions were arrested as suspects. One of the men was arrested at home in Beersel on Monday evening by the local Zennevallei police zone. On Tuesday afternoon, just like the eighteen-year-old man from Ninove, he was arrested by the Bruges investigating judge. On Wednesday, the third suspect, who was arrested in Brussels, was also arrested by the investigating judge. The council chamber in Bruges will decide on Friday whether the three should remain in prison longer.

Meanwhile, the fourth suspect presented himself to the police. He will be interrogated. It will subsequently become clear whether he will also be brought before the investigating judge.
