The application does not contain any urban development extensions, but does combine the brewery site on Walplein and the bottling plant in Waggelwater in one permit. Both sites are already connected via the beer pipeline, which limits freight traffic in the city center of Bruges, according to the minister.
“We are not blindly opting for expansion here, nor blindly opting for stagnation. We are opting for common sense,” says Brouns. “The brewery gets perspective, but the neighborhood gets guarantees.”
