A game of tennis or padel in a company hall: if it is up to Hoogeveen, it will soon be possible. The municipality wants to relax rules to allow for indoor sports in more places.
Research by the municipality shows that many entrepreneurs would like to build an indoor spotlight hall. For example, in a company hall or somewhere on an industrial estate. The rules do not allow that now, but Hoogeveen wants to change course.
According to councilor Ronald Klok (VVD), residents want to exercise in more and more ways. This also includes indoor fitness, padel or tennis options. Twenty entrepreneurs have already indicated that they are interested.
Behind the scenes, the municipality is busy tinkering to make this possible. After the summer, everything should be in place, so that entrepreneurs can apply for a permit to build an indoor hall.
People who do not like the municipality’s change of course can object. Not everyone gets a permit just like that. With each application, it is checked whether the sports hall location is easily accessible, there are enough parking spaces and whether it fits in with the neighborhood.
A swimming pool, school building and homes should be built on the northern part of the Bentinckspark. The municipality will decide this summer whether an indoor sports hall can be added.
Entrepreneur Vincent Martijn and his partner expressed their wish last year to build something like this at Bentinckspark-Noord. That wish would be investigated and that is now happening.
According to Martijn and his partner, there are no places to play indoor tennis, squash or padel in Hoogeveen. According to the entrepreneur, there is a demand for this, partly due to the fast-growing sport of padel.
