The flirtation between Werder Bremen and Niclas Füllkrug is apparently getting hotter.
As the “Deichstube” reports, the club and the players are said to have had “initial discussions” to explore possible collaboration. Füllkrug comes from the Werder Bremen youth team. Between 2019 and 2023, the center forward played again for the green-whites.
After a season at Borussia Dortmund, Füllkrug then moved on to West Ham United in the Premier League. However, due to bad luck with injuries, the 33-year-old never really arrived in England. At the beginning of the year Füllkrug was loaned out to AC Milan. However, in 20 appearances for the Rossoneri, the 24-time national player only managed one goal.
Will Werder and Füllkrug get together again?
Füllkrug’s contract with West Ham United runs until 2028. After the Londoners were recently relegated from the Premier League, the signs point to a separation.
According to “Deichstube”, both Werder Bremen and Füllkrug can imagine working together again. It is said that concrete negotiations have not yet taken place. “Bild” also reports on the flirtation.

Coach Daniel Thioune recently outlined that 15th place in the table. For the past Bundesliga season, we need players “who are available for a full season if possible.”
“We want to find a good mix and continue to be courageous in our decisions. Sometimes you get the chance to have a player with high quality, but who is a certain susceptibility to injury. We have to check that and weigh up the risk/reward ratio,” Werder sports director Clemens Fritz asked “Bild” about the requirements profile for potential new signings.
According to “Deichstube”, the talks between the Hanseatic League and Füllkrug should continue. Werder Bremen is apparently planning to place an experienced veteran alongside its young attackers in the squad.
