  • Bamberg is now waiting in the semi-finals of the BBL playoffs

Alba Berlin reached the semi-finals of the BBL playoffs. The Berlin basketball players won the decisive game of the best-of-five series against Rasta Vechta on Wednesday evening in front of 8,867 spectators in the Arena at Ostbahnhof with 98:89 (50:40).

Alba won the series 3-2. The semi-final series against Bamberg begins next Saturday.

Vechta fights, but Alba stays cool

Under the eyes of her ex-player Johannes Thiemann, Alba got off to a better start. They immediately put Vechta under pressure with aggressive pressing and a lot of speed. The guests then appeared unimpressed, took advantage of Berlin’s mistakes and turned the game into their first lead (9:8).

But it was the Alba team that put their stamp on the game afterwards. The visitors’ defense had problems, especially when the Berlin team picked up the pace. Even from a distance, Vechta didn’t score as usual. The Berliners, on the other hand, found solutions by often looking for a direct route to the basket.

Even after the break, Alba initially set the tone and even pulled away with 16 points (74:58). The guests woke up at the end of the third quarter and were within four points at the start of the last period (74:70).

But the hosts didn’t get nervous and struck back immediately. With a minute and a half to go they pulled away again and secured victory.

The best Berlin thrower was Jack Kayil with 20 points. At Vechta, Alonzo Verge and TJ Bamba each had 19 points.
