Actor Marcel Musters’ frank call to pay off his debts is causing a lot of commotion on social media. He asked if people would like to transfer one euro to help him get out of his financial problems step by step.
The 66-year-old actor, known for Penoza, Zwartboek and Gooische Vrouwen, said in a video on Instagram on Tuesday that it has become increasingly difficult for him in recent years. Due to persistent health problems, he found himself in financial difficulties and his debts piled up. He now hopes to slowly achieve this with small contributions from many people.
“He should be ashamed to ask this.”
But many people on social media think Musters should solve his problems himself. “He must be ashamed to ask this,” Marga writes. “He earned well as an actor and probably lived so comfortably that he has no savings. Anyone with debts ultimately has to pay them off themselves.”
Bonnie thinks the actor could have managed his money better. ‘Maybe he should have saved a little more and spent less when he was still in a good position. Probably had a good time and are now holding hands. Shameless!”
“Unfortunately, those people simply have to go into debt restructuring.”
Oscar sympathizes with Musters, but believes he should approach things differently. “It’s a sad situation for him, but he is not the only one in the Netherlands with medical complaints and debts. Unfortunately, those people simply have to go into debt restructuring. He can also go there.”
Mindbody also points to existing assistance. “Sorry, but whoever incurs the debts must also pay them off themselves. There is help for people with debts, so actor or not: seek help.”
“I know what it feels like to be in debt.”
Yet there are also people who understand the actor’s vulnerable appeal. “Read it. Start pouring soon,” Maartje responds. “Top actor. I know what it feels like to be in debt.”
Judith also has another solution for the actor. “Maybe live in Brabant again instead of expensive Amsterdam.”
According to the ED Musters claims to have raised the amount within one day. Omroep Brabant has also approached him about this, but has not received a response so far.
