Diego Lopez, Genoa’s Chief of Football, talks about the future project: confirmation for coach Daniele De Rossi and the centrality of Baldanzi.
Genoa plans its future and does so starting from two certainties: Daniele De Rossi on the bench and Tommaso Baldanzi on the pitch. The line is drawn by Chief of Football Diego Lopez, who in an interview granted to Il Secolo XIX defined the club’s strategies for next season.
De Rossi, the choice for a multi-year project
The trust in Daniele De Rossi is total. Lopez explained the reasons that led to his choice, identifying three key elements: technical skills, human value and deep knowledge of the Italian championship. The goal is to build a lasting path: “It represents change, union and unity,” said Lopez. “We have a strong coach, with whom we want to build over time to improve ourselves, the right man with whom to create a serious project, not of months but of years”.
Baldanzi and the Genoa identity: “Very clear ideas”
On the players front, the name at the center of the plans is that of Tommaso Baldanzi. The company has no doubts about its value and its permanence. “We have very clear ideas about Baldanzi, he is someone who changes the team with his quality, his vision,” said Lopez. The attacking midfielder is not only appreciated for his technical skills, but also for his attitude: “He has demonstrated Genoa DNA, an essential skill for the players we want: he fights on second balls, he presses, he has technique, he has already entered the hearts of the fans at the stadium and in ours.” This philosophy also extends to other elements of the squad: “As was the case for Sabelli, there is the desire to keep players who know what Genoa is, how to deal with difficulties, who have decided important matches.”
