VfB Stuttgart creates clarity in the goalkeeper position. Regular keeper Alexander Nübel is bid farewell, homegrown Dennis Seimen is set to become number one.
VfB Stuttgart has officially said goodbye to goalkeeper Alexander Nübel. Instead, the Bundesliga club will rely on homegrown Dennis Seimen next season. The 20-year-old top talent returns from a loan spell at SC Paderborn, with whom Seimen achieved promotion to the Bundesliga a few days ago.
Alexander Nübel’s loan was a success story
Nübel was on loan from FC Bayern Munich for a total of three years. He was a face of the Swabians’ recovery: runner-up in 2024, DFB Cup victory in 2025 and Champions League qualification in 2026 are inextricably linked to the 29-year-old, who was also an important factor for the dressing room with his balanced and calm demeanor.
Manchester City and Juventus Turin are probably interested in Nübel
The national goalkeeper’s contract with the German record champions runs until 2030. However, the World Cup driver no longer plays a role in the Munich team’s plans. “It was a sensational time at VfB Stuttgart in every respect. My family and I had three wonderful years in Stuttgart, and I felt very comfortable from day one,” explained Nübel, who played 129 competitive games for VfB. “I was shown a lot of appreciation and respect by the team and the fans, for which I am very grateful.”
VfB would have had to stretch financially enormously in terms of transfer fee and salary in order to sign Nübel permanently. The 29-year-old may now be moving abroad. The top international clubs Manchester City and Juventus Turin are said to be interested in Nübel, as “Sport Bild” reports.
Home grown Dennis Seimen Tests
“Alexander Nübel has set standards in the last three years. Athletically, in terms of character, on and off the pitch,” said sports director Fabian Wohlgemuth about the national goalkeeper. “Alex could always be relied on.”
Seimen has long been considered a great bearer of hope for the future in Stuttgart. The Heilbronner was trained in the VfB youth team. After his strong second division season in Paderborn, the 20-year-old is now returning. He is about to make his first appearances in the Bundesliga and will also play in the Champions League with the Swabians.
