Deforestation in the Brazilian Amazon fell last year to the lowest level since 2019, according to a report from monitor MapBiomas published on Wednesday. South America’s largest country lost 985,000 hectares of native vegetation last year, a 20.6 percent decline from 2024, according to MapBiomas.
