The Cleveland Cavaliers will stick with head coach Kenny Atkinson after their playoff exit against the New York Knicks. This is what Shams Charania reports from ESPN.

The Cavs had seven wins each against the Toronto Raptors and Detroit Pistons in the postseason. In the Conference Finals, however, they were badly defeated by the Knicks: On Monday they lost Game 4 in their own stadium with 93:130 and thus received the sweep.

Nevertheless, Atkinson should still have great support in the front office, according to Charania. The two star guards Donovan Mitchell and James Harden spoke out for the coach following the defeat. “I love Kenny. We all love him. We stand by Kenny and that’s all that matters,” emphasized Mitchell.

Atkinson has been with the Cavs for two years and his record in the regular season is 116-48. Cleveland made it to the Conference Finals for the first time since 2018, but several of the coach’s decisions caused criticism.

Team owner Dan Gilbert posted after Game 4 X: “We took a step forward this spring, but we are still nowhere near where we need to be.”
