Noepal, 26 May. (askanews) – The Italian mountaineer Leonardo Avezzano carried a kite to the top of Everest with i colors of the Palestinian flag and the dreams written by the children of Gaza.

The expedition was led by the Jordanian-Palestinian mountaineer Mostafa Salameh, who however failed to reach the summit. The initiative aims to draw attention to the consequences of war on children.

“It’s above all about making the world understand what happened in Gaza,” says Salameh. «These are dreams: all children have dreams and can make them come true if we help them. In Gaza everything is more difficult. Because of this we needed the whole world to know. And what better way to do it than to bring all this to the roof of the world.”

«These dreams» he continues «will come true. Because these children are resilientthey remain on their land despite everything you see in Gaza. It’s all destroyed: their homes, schools, universities, hospitals, playgrounds, everything. But they are still there.” «They have dreams that they want to realize. And I think that bringing these dreams to the roof of the world means telling them that nothing is impossible.”

«The first thing I thought of doing, once I reached the summit, was to raise the flag, raise the kite and dedicate this effort we have made to the children of Gaza» says Leonardo Avezzano, Italian mountaineer.
