After pilgrimages to Rome and Jerusalem, Barry Gepken has put on his walking shoes again. Last Sunday, on Pentecost, the Erican left for the Catholic pilgrimage site of Fátima in Portugal.
A journey of 3,500 kilometers. “In good health it takes me about four and a half months,” says Gepken.
A little strut it isn’t. In the summer months I walk for miles with a backpack weighing 20 kilos. “And I am also going over the Pyrynees.”
Why does 52-year-old Gepken undertake such a pilgrimage again? “It still tickled me. I am now alone in my life again and I wanted to do this alone again.”
During the trips to Rome in 2018 and Jerusalem in 2023, Gepken was accompanied by his then girlfriend and dog.
