Naomi Osaka has often attracted attention with her extravagant outfits. She also became an eye-catcher again at the French Open.
Four-time Grand Slam winner Naomi Osaka caused a stir at the French Open in Paris with a glittering outfit. When Suzanne-Lenglen entered the court, she took off a long veil and revealed her equally sparkling match dress – the audience’s cheers immediately followed.
After her 6:3, 7:6 (7:3) win against the German Laura Siegemund, Osaka provided the explanation for her outfit. The 28-year-old told the interviewer: “You know when the Eiffel Tower sparkles at night? I kind of think I look like that.”

“I can speak through my clothes”
For Osaka, extravagant appearances are part of tennis. Shortly before the start of the tournament she said: “I don’t talk much, so I can talk through my clothes. I think that’s the fun part. I think that’s been lost a bit in tennis.” During her childhood, she always enjoyed looking at the outfits of the Williams sisters, Serena and Venus.
Osaka also made a noticeable appearance at previous Grand Slam tournaments. At the Australian Open early last January, she entered Rod Laver Arena wearing a long white veil attached to a white hat. She also wore white trousers and held a white umbrella in her hand.
Osaka later revealed that the outfit was based on the look of a jellyfish. At the US Open last year, she wore flashing, colorful plush toy figures to match her outfit and red, sparkling roses as jewelry in her ponytail.
