According to a journalist’s investigation Hugo Alconada Mon published in The Nation based on data from the Central Bank, confidential bank records and sources with access to financial information, Manuel Adorni and his wife Bettina Angeletti accumulated consumption with credit cards for more than $176 million since the official took over as presidential spokesperson, in December 2023, until March of this year. During 2025 alone, spending on plastics exceeded $85 millionat a monthly average of $7.1 million.
The most striking data from the research is the gap between that level of spending and the declared income of the marriage. During almost that entire period, Adorni received a gross salary of $3.5 million monthlywhile Angeletti was listed as monotributista. In August 2024, the couple paid $7.5 million in cards; in October 2025, $9.7 million: amounts that in all cases doubled or tripled the official’s salary. All these payments were made through bank debits, without recording delays or defaults.
The pattern of consumption also changed qualitatively since Adorni entered public service. As detailed to The Nation source under reserve, the couple went from buying clothes in installments to incorporating expenses of thousands of dollars abroad. The records also show $700,000 per month in expenses from the country Indio Cuá – where they renovated a property for US$245,000 in cash – and the school fees for their two children, approximately $800,000 per month, which is not paid by automatic debit.
The court case for alleged illicit enrichment which has Adorni in its sights is now seeking to establish the origin of the funds that sustained that level of spending. With the tax and banking secrets already lifted, investigators estimate that the couple’s assets have grown substantially since 2023: in addition to the cash replacements, real estate transactions worth US$185,000, trips worth US$34,752, and pending commitments were identified.
