This year’s summer is all about sport. According to the Pinterest Summer Trend Report 2026, during the warmest months of the year, sport becomes a broader cultural language that not only influences clothing choices but also shapes social interaction.
It’s not just about major sporting events such as the upcoming World Cup and the currently booming fan culture associated with a wide variety of sports, but above all about the visual codes of sport, according to the search and discovery platform in its report published on Tuesday. Team colors, jerseys, performance elements and fan rituals are translated into everyday life and shape new forms of self-expression.
Pinterest is seeing fandom increasingly evolve from a sports-related interest to an all-encompassing lifestyle. This is particularly clear because the report, which is based on the search queries of around 600 million monthly active users, is less about the sports themselves and more about the aesthetics associated with them.
Female athletes become style role models
This change is particularly evident in the growing cultural importance of female athletes. Users are no longer just looking for sporting successes, but are increasingly interested in the overall aesthetics of their role models.
The biggest search winners include figure skater Alysa Liu (+39,228 percent) and freestyle skier Eileen Gu (+5,503 percent). Search terms such as “Georgina Rodriguez aesthetic” (+225 percent), “Caitlin Clark selfie” (+142 percent) or “Angel Reese basketball” (+96 percent) also illustrate the increasing interest in the connection between sport, personality and lifestyle.
In the fashion sector, Pinterest also paints a picture of a new sporty everyday uniform. The focus is on wide-cut silhouettes, personalized denim looks and sporty basics that establish themselves off the pitch.
Individually designed jorts and patchwork denim are particularly in demand. Searches for “denim jorts outfit” increased by 330 percent, while “denim patchwork shirt” saw an increase of 280 percent. At the same time, cargo pants and cargo shorts are experiencing a revival. Search terms like “cargo jeans outfit ideas” (+366 percent) or “cargo pants outfits women summer” (+363 percent) are among the strongest growth drivers.
Football jerseys are also becoming central styling elements. Searches for “world cup shirt” increased by 840 percent. Worn oversized, cropped or combined with feminine elements, they are increasingly being used as a fashion statement.
Tennis club meets coastal aesthetic
Pinterest describes another development under the term “Courtside and Coastal Prep”. The aesthetic combines classic tennis and racquet sports elements with maritime influences and preppy styling.
Striped polo shirts (+393 percent), tennis outfits (+131 percent), white blazers (+466 percent) and green accessories (+88 percent) are just as much in focus as maritime basics. Searches for striped shirts for women (+1,962 percent), transparent ponchos (+1,093 percent) and red jelly shoes (+349 percent) are growing particularly strongly. Priorities are also shifting when it comes to accessories. Sneakers are increasingly interpreting the platform in a fashionable way and are breaking away from their pure performance function.
Hybrid models such as dad trainers (+906 percent), Mary Jane sneakers (+267 percent) or ballet trainers (+170 percent) are particularly in demand. At the same time, eye-catching glasses shapes are becoming increasingly important. Searches for oval sunglasses for women increased 415 percent, while searches for Chrome Hearts glasses increased 828 percent.
The trend ranges from minimalist silhouettes of the 1990s to futuristic shield and wraparound models. This leaning towards the 1990s is also evident in a renaissance of sport-inspired streetwear. Windbreakers, tracksuits and motorsport references are transferred into higher quality, more fashionable contexts.
Searches for “baddie tracksuit outfit” increased 276 percent, while the search term “Formula 1 aesthetic outfit” saw 483 percent growth. At the same time, capri pants are making a comeback. Flowing Capri silhouettes (+527 percent), which are positioned as an alternative to classic shorts, are particularly in demand.
Fan culture can be seen in the details
With a view to the upcoming international football tournaments, fan aesthetics are also becoming increasingly important. It’s less about classic fan items and more about subtle styling elements that combine team affiliation and personality.
Searches for Tinsel Hair (+622 percent), bandana jewelry (+303 percent), scarves as bag accessories (+217 percent) and World Cup stickers (+283 percent) are rising particularly sharply. Fan culture is becoming an integral part of summer style and underlines the central message of the report: In 2026, sport is not just competition, but also identity, community and cultural expression.
